Our Woodland Workshops

At our forest school, we connect with the natural world, deeply. We nurture our inner nature alongside nature around us through workshops woven together with hands and hearts.

Wildlings will learn through hands-on experiences, exploring nature, building dens and engaging in creative play. We gather around a crackling campfire for stories, songs, and campfire cooking. Our gentle therapy dog provides comfort and companionship for all, while our experienced forest school leader guides the wildlings on a dance through the ancient unfolding theatre of the natural world.

We engage in traditional crafts, tend to the land, forage for natural remedies and discover creativity woven within ancient rituals, bushcraft and exploring herbalism and nature therapy. We are rooted within a holistic approach. Nurturing both our inner and outer wild. Teaching traditional crafts and focusing on crafts with naturally foraged materials. We explore a spiritual connection to the land around us through ancient rituals and unique givings and offerings to each other and the land.

Traditional Crafts:
In this ancient setting, traditional crafts and bushcraft skills were essential for survival. Basket weaving, pottery, leather-working, and woodworking were crucial for creating everyday necessities. Willow, reeds, and grasses were woven into intricate baskets for gathering, storing, and carrying. Clay was shaped and fired in kilns to create bowls, jars, and cooking vessels. Animal hides were tanned, cured, and stitched into clothing, footwear, and tools. Trees were felled and shaped into tools, weapons, shelters, and even boats. Textiles were spun from wool and flax and woven into cloth for clothing and blankets.

Bushcraft:
Bushcraft skills were equally vital. Mastering the art of creating fire using friction, flint and steel, or by collecting tinder and kindling was paramount. Shelter-building involved constructing temporary shelters from branches, leaves, and animal skins for protection from the elements. Tracking animal tracks was essential for hunting for food or to learn about the local ecosystem. Foraging played a significant role, as people identified and gathered edible plants, berries, and mushrooms. Navigation relied on the stars, sun, and natural landmarks to find their way across the landscape.
